With a quote like that to promote a book, I’m surprised bookshops aren’t setting up barricades.
That was not how I stumbled across Asako Yuzuki’s Butter.
I saw the book title, took a photo, and forwarded it to Diem as a joke, who is operating a business with the same name.
“It’s a thriller about a former gourmet cook and serial killer, and the journalist intending on cracking her case, inspired by a TRUE STORY,” Diem texted back.
In my head, I heard ding after ding after ding.
Murder mystery, food, social commentary, Japan.
Look at me, I’m the target market now.
“It’s the book I’ve always wanted to write,” I texted Lee Tran after reading it.
She ended up purchasing the audiobook.
That’s right, look at me, I’m the influencer’s influencer now.
Truth is, I regretted almost immediately after sending the text.
